Arik-Brauer-Haus
Arik-Brauer-Haus is a fantastical residential building in Vienna's 6th district, created by the celebrated Austrian artist Arik Brauer, with an exuberantly colourful and sculptural façade that resembles a living painting. Every surface tells a story — mosaic tiles, rounded forms, and vivid hues make the building a striking counterpoint to the conventional Viennese streetscape. A must-see for fans of architectural creativity and the Vienna Fantastical Realism movement.

The architect behind it, Peter Pelikan, also worked on the famous Hundertwasserhaus — so this is its lesser-known Mariahilf cousin, designed by painter Arik Brauer and built 1991-1994.
Beyond the colourful facade, the building hides an interior courtyard with a pond and small animal enclosures, and the stairwell windows are done in reverse-glass painting — details most passers-by never notice.
It's right next to the Raimundtheater and a two-minute walk from U6 Gumpendorfer Straße — easy to fold into a U6 stroll, and the wildly tiled facade is free to admire from the street any time.
